Awesome establishment, friendly owners and environmentally friendly practices. One time they messed up my order and refused to let me pay for another sandwich. Great customer service, cool dine in area and pretty fast service. All in all a great place to have Lunch, they even offer a good selection of vegetarian dishes. Good job!

So amazingly YUMMY! The Philly cheesesteaks here are one of the top 2 Phillys I ever have had! Highly recommend! Great & quick service! Food is hot & staff is friendly! I hope this place succeeds! Love it!

Awesome Philly... Definitely a "must stop" if you dig the dives... The food is amazing.

  • Marcheita S.

Tried twice and nothing special. Expensive for an okay sandwich. Sausage, peppers and onion hoagie was terrible. Sausage was tough and peppers and onions were so over cooked they were mushy and the bun was soggy.

  • Vanessa G.

Wow! Huge yummy subs! We shared a Philly and a sausage sub, delish.

  • Jeremy M.

Ordered the Godfather expecting it to be just a good sandwich. Was thoroughly impressed at how much flavor they packed into that thing. Way better than any sub I've had in the past. Will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu.

Before this cool little joint, Sub Cultured was just a small vendor with a cooler by the front entrance at the Home Depot on Atlantic and Girvin (one i would visit occasionally). When I heard that they were opening up a restaurant in close proximity to where I work, my stomach was already making preparations for the spicy italian sausage sub with onions and peppers (what I always get at Home Depot). The menu is quite appealing with subs like the Philly Cheesesteak and they even have cold cuts and a good selection of salads to accompany your sandwich. The food is great, prices are great, and the pleasant service is no different. Oh and get an order of their house fries by the way, for 3 dollars the portion is generous and it's seasoned very well.

Great sandwiches, great sloth, poor shelter. Food's quite good, though, some innovation in ingredients and their combinations. You walk up to the window (@ SW corner of Mayport Rd & Donner Rd), declare and pay, and wait, and wait...this is my 5th time eating here and thus far 14 minutes was the quickest they'd emerged from the door and called out my name and tacked on their obligatory "sorry about the wait" (it is like they truly believe themselves it is an anonaly, all 4 times!), one of the 4 prior lunches took a whopping 25 minutes. Just as I write this they deliver the package at ten minutes on the nose, an entirely acceptable score to me. They're not cheap, and neither are good ingredients, so that's fine; u get what u pay for and I'm a fellow sole prop, so will stay aligned. Terrific bread. Tender roast beef. Sprouts. Havarti chz. I'll be back, nagging the queue and abundant lack of shade again as the young old curmudgeon I am, because where the rubber meets the road they consistently border on terrific. Scrumptious Italian, and the "Caswell" features tender sliced roast beef served warm with tomatoes, sprouts, and havarti cheese all on fresh and spongy sourdough.

Great food!!! New to the area and had been looking for a sandwich shop. This is a place I will visit on a regular basis. Prices are reasonable and service was good. Wait time depends on how busy they are but normally nothing longer than 15 minutes. I tried the chicken philly it was perfect. Not something I would normally order but I am glad I did.

These are the same fellas that serves the amazing sausage dogs in front of Home Depot. I'm so glad they opened up on the corner of Levy Rd and Mayport Rd. This spot has a great beach vibe blended with Caribbean and American culture. The food is sooooo good. Was hoping to make this my got to lunch spot but a bit pricey for Mayport. How could I forget, The Owner DaDa, is one of the hardest working food vendors I have met and this spills over to his whole staff. Make sure to get a old fashion glass bottle soda. It will make you feel like a kid again or in the Caribbean. This is a perfect fit for us islanders.

Their sandwiches are really good, but their fries have been cooked to crisps on more than one occasion. I really wanted to give them 5 stars but super crunchy fries more than 3 times sucks. I still like them a lot though so I do recommend them for a quick bite to eat.

What a find!!! I was visiting my family in Jacksonville and came across this place on Yelp. Apparently they are well known for their food truck outside Home Depot and now they have a walk up window at Mayport Rd. and Donner (behind Nick the Greek). We ordered the ultimate Philly which is made w shaved hot or sweet Italian sausage and added onions, peppers, and provolone cheese. It was so awesome! I also got the Sweet Caprese which was much smaller than the philly (like a normal grilled cheese sandwich size) and super tasty. The menu looked so good. Next time I would check out their poutine and also their salads--had a great looking one w craisins and goat cheese. Also, the employees were SO friendly and helpful w the menu. I hope this place is a huge success.

Sub Cultured is a fantastic sandwich and salad eatery that truly embodies the entire meaning of its name. Along the run down drags of Mayport Rd you will find a walk up window that is Sub Cultured. It's outfitted with potted trees and flowers, pop bottles, and chalk board menus. The staff operate quite efficiently and make your food fresh to order. I walked down here for some lunch after discovering the joint's existence while attending a small craft sale/show nearby. I was happy to find it, as walking down the street left me feeling very uneasy - there are many buildings that appear abandoned and small businesses that look like they've seen better days. Once I got to the window, I put my order in and waited patiently for my eats. About 10 min later I was headed back to the show with food for me and my wife, and an old fashioned bottled dr pepper. We enjoyed the Sweet Caprese and Phillysteak sandwiches. Taking half of each, we got to try them both. The sweet Caprese was just as it sounds. A Caprese with a touch of sweetness. I really enjoyed it, as it contained many of my favorite flavored: melted cheese, tomato with pesto, and honey. I would order it again, and for $6 I thought it was a good value. My wife was not as crazy about it as I was. However, we both awed at the taste of the Phillysteak. These guys claim to be the same ones who make the Philly steak outside homedepot, where we first tried the sandwich (this in and of itself is mind boggling, let alone having a quality Phillysteak in Jacksonville). The steak is high quality, super thinly sliced, and flavorful. The cheese, peppers and onions really come together well to make the sandwich top notch. I highly recommend trying it out! I'd really like to come back and try the gypsy fries sometime. They are supposedly fries with the Phillysteak ingredients on top. A+ in my book, or in this case, 5 stars!

Fantastic sandwiches! Wasn't crazy about the pork in the Cuban but the other sandwiches we had were a 10!

  • Jeremy P.

Best philly I have had since being in Philly, fries are delicious, overall great spot

    (5)
  • Mike S.

One of the best cheesesteaks I have ever eaten. I was born in Philly and I've had quite a few cheesesteaks all over the place. I found my new cheesesteak place and I will return quite a few times. Maybe next time I might even try the Gypsy Fries or the Poutine. Worth every penny and then some.

  • Timothy G.

Great food, local business. Primarily a service window for take-out but they also have a cute, cozy dining room if you want to eat in. Very reasonable prices for the quality and the fact that it's not a chain. Outstanding customer service - they legitimately appreciate your patronage and are very, very helpful. I love the Godfather (Italian sub), but I've tasted several others and they're terrific too. I recommend walking or biking up if you can because it's at a rough intersection, but it's not that big a deal. You won't go wrong with anything you order here.

    (5)
  • Kait M.

Delicious!!! I couldn't ask for a better sub. They come hot and loaded with high quality ingredients. And the subs aren't small, either! This place is one of my regular stops, and will continue to be as long as they're around.

  • Kayla C.

I saw this place open up in the old Nick the Greek area, so I decided to look it up! It had good reviews on here, so we tried it. I was not disappointed. I had a Philly Cheese Steak with both hot and sweet peppers and onions. It was amazing. Probably one of the best Philly Cheese Steaks I've ever had. Or THE best. We also had gypsy fries - so basically all the Philly stuff on fries. Super awesome. If you are going for atmosphere and a restaurant, it's not the place for you. They do have a super small dining area, but it is more of an option for takeout. However, if you want some bomb sandwich food, this place rocks!

    (5)
  • Jason B.

Yelp did it again! What a fantastic find just where you would never expect it. You order via a window outside and then can sit in the parking lot outside or a small inside area. Nothing fancy but comfortable. Then the food comes and it is fantastic, hands down the best sub I have had in Jacksonville. This is a must visit place.

    (5)
  • Holly G.

Never disappoints. My favorite are the fries with the ranch dressing. Great snack for only 3. The sandwiches are fresh and full of flavor!

    (5)
  • Chuck M.

Top notch subs and soups. I have yet to try the salads, but I'm sure they are GREAT too!

    (5)
  • Ann J.

So, my chief complaint would have to be that during my first visit I was not warned that the food is HIGHLY ADDICTIVE... I live right around the area and figured I'd give it a try - of course all of the yelp reviews are awesome so I figured what's the worst that can happen? Maybe get a bad sub.. whatever... BUT something far worst has happened, I CRAVE A PHILLY AND FRIES DAILY... but I realize I can't go everyday so I pace myself to weekly... every single sandwich I have tried are amazing... I typically get the Philly but the pastrami, the godfather and the chicken Philly are hands down the most amazing subs I've had and I was born and raised in New Jersey. The fries are cooked perfectly they are always nice and crunchy never soggy and paired with the homemade ranch are just amazing.. amazing food, amazing staff... CUSTOMER FOR LIFE! ISUB-CULTURED!!!!

  • Adam F.

Food was beyond great a little disappointed however that there was no indoor seating I was expecting to sit down in AC not get sunburn while I eat a hot delicious sub.

    (4)
  • Valerie C.

Been here twice now and haven't been disappointed at all. Service is friendly, food is fresh and delicious. I'm not sure what they put in their house ranch, but it's the perfect compliment to their already perfect fries. Just found out they deliver too!

    (5)
  • Robert W.

The Godfather is one of the best Italian subs I've ever had, I can not wait to try the rest of the menu! Very friendly service too! Keep up the great work.

Popularly known as the "Home Depot Philly Cheesesteak guys," it's about time they got their own spot. Sub Cultured is one of the best places to eat in Atlantic Beach. This is not your average sandwich shop. So far, I've tried their Philly Cheesesteak, Cuban and Sweet Caprese sandwiches. My hunger has been completely satisfied each time I've visited. You really can't go wrong with anything you choose. The restaurant occupies a tiny to-go stand nestled at the corner of Mayport and Donner Rd, with a few seats. Service is very friendly and helpful (as a bonus, the dude gave my dogs free treats). I will be back to try more.

    (5)
  • Jason J.

My wife and I stopped in and split a Cuban sandwich. We both agreed it was one of the best sandwiches we've ever had. We can't wait to try more of the menu, especially the gypsy fries on a cheat day. The guys behind the counter were cool too.

  • Jeremiah W.

Very unique place with Amazing Food. Very well prepared and very unique.!! Great job guys!

  • Andrea S.

Our new favorite! Super tasty subs, seasoned FF (do yourself a favor, get the ranch) and they deliver! What more could you want?? Looking forward to trying everything.

  • Josh P.

Just had a LOUSY experience. I called in my sub, it took 25 minutes and when I got to my office to eat, it was the wrong sub. I got the Chicken Philly and they asked if I wanted it teriyaki style (I'm amazed anyone would, certainly no one who's ever eaten a chicken philly before). When I called to complain they put me on hold for so long I hung up. VERY DISAPPOINTING. There's too many good sub shops around. I've got no plans to go back.

    (2)
  • Bob C.

This place is really good. Probably had the best Cuban sandwich I've ever had. I highly suggest you give it a try.

  • Steven H.

Saw this place driving around town and was interested. Got off work early and the wife suggested we get some sandwiches from here. I got the pastrami sandwich, it was simple but so good.. My wife tested the Cuban and was impressed. We got a side of fries and some of the homemade ranch which was absolutely amazing.. Definitely looking to visit again..

  • Virginia M.

I was driving around Mayport and I made a wrong turn and happen to stumble upon this place, which was perfect because I needed to grab some lunch. I ordered the Godfather sub and it was delicious! They also have salads that I would like to try when I return! You can enjoy your lunch outside or inside, there is a small seating area.

    (4)
  • Sean B.

Today, I had the godfather, which is what I normally get. My wife tried the Caswell, also a fantastic. It melts in your mouth. These guys make the best sandwiches I have ever had. Not to mention the killer fries with American sauce. I love their American sauce, it is a must try and I like putting it on my godfather sub as well.

  • Kevin E.

Oh. My. God. I have passed this place a ton of times since they opened, and finally ventured by last Friday. I kid you not, today was the third time since I have been in. If I go in the evenings, I'll get a sub to take to work the next day for lunch. The dood that runs it I felt like I had seen before--and I have. I've gotten an Italian sausage from him from outside HD which was great. The staff is super nice, and I can't explain how awesome the sandwiches are. Not only is it a banging local food spot, but they also get their delicious bread from a local mom n pop bakery cinottis (sp?) I've tried the godfather, caswell and the poutine fries. All were knock outs. Oh and if you have a dog, they'll even give them a biscuit.

I have seen Sub Culture on Facebook now for a longtime. Never making down the Mayport 500 much I haven't had a chance to stop in. Well today I didn't have much to do so I ventured out. The place used to be take out only but they have since opened up a small seating area indoors. You just walk up to a window and before you know it a head will pop out and start talking to you. The owner who is from Miami is very nice and will explain or answer any question that you have. I was perusing the menu and was about to go with the GodFather Sub and he was telling the folks in front of me about the Cuban. He says I'm from Miami and I know a Cuban sandwich. He just put his little twist on it. Well they put their twist on it alright. Bacon and a aioli (mayo n mustard and garlic mix) combination was enough to take the sandwich from Cuba to Ohio for me. It was a pretty good sandwich but just not a Cuban. It did have pork and ham and pickles and it was pressed. So the crust was crispy and the pork tasted good but nothing special. I will stop in again since I have tome now. I think I will go for the Godfather thou.

Where do the pie ladies from Pie Heaven go for lunch when we've had enough chicken pot pie and quiche? This place! Poutine fries are decadent with cheese chunks and masterfully flavored gravy paired with their perfectly seasoned Philly steak...Yum! I ALWAYS add mayo to my cheese steak..but not this time...no need. These handsome guys understand seasoning.

    (5)
  • Ashley E.

Best Sub place in jax. I go there once a week. They always know what I want and are super nice. They use the best quality meats/cheeses you can get, and the sub rolls are amazing and locally made at Cinotti's bakery. Not many places you can get a good pastrami sub, so I'm happy a cool local place opened up in Mayport. I always tell people about it and try to bring friends.

    (5)
  • Amanda B.

The employees there were super nice and friendly which always makes an establishment wonderful. I walked up and decided to order a "make your own sub" a regular roast beef, lettuce, tomatoes, I asked about the garlic aioli and they said it was wonderful so I added it on. I also order a side of fries which were wonderfully priced. The garlic aioli on the sub was a little to strong from the aioli. And I absolutely love garlic. Started on the fries and they were wonderful, they put a ranch on the side and once again I couldn't eat because of the strong garlic taste. This place sounds wonderful and next time I am going back to try one of their signature sandwiches instead of a build you own. And no garlic aioli. All and all I will come back and try something else.

Never disappoints. My favorite are the fries with the ranch dressing. Great snack for only 3. The sandwiches are fresh and full of flavor!

Top notch subs and soups. I have yet to try the salads, but I'm sure they are GREAT too!

My wife and I stopped in and split a Cuban sandwich. We both agreed it was one of the best sandwiches we've ever had. We can't wait to try more of the menu, especially the gypsy fries on a cheat day. The guys behind the counter were cool too.

On point. Best Philly in Jax. If you blink you might miss this little place, but well worth the u-turn.

Our new favorite! Super tasty subs, seasoned FF (do yourself a favor, get the ranch) and they deliver! What more could you want?? Looking forward to trying everything.

Tried twice and nothing special. Expensive for an okay sandwich. Sausage, peppers and onion hoagie was terrible. Sausage was tough and peppers and onions were so over cooked they were mushy and the bun was soggy.

Fast service , great food. That was the best Sub cheese steak loaded and gypsy fries. So don 't pass up this spot....

Best philly and chicken Philly cheesesteaks in town! The right amount of ingredients and slightly messy on soft but toasted bread. Been waiting for a place like this. Must try.

Outstanding Phillies & subs!! Cinotti's bread on all is the best. Will go again as often as possible and highly recommend this place.

Awesome establishment, friendly owners and environmentally friendly practices. One time they messed up my order and refused to let me pay for another sandwich. Great customer service, cool dine in area and pretty fast service. All in all a great place to have Lunch, they even offer a good selection of vegetarian dishes. Good job!
